The Museum of Warm Springs has accomplished a new sign, heating and air conditioning, installed a traveling youth exhibit, upgraded its parking area and security system.
It was all through donations and grants that totaled $475,189 this year, according to the museum. Among the projects were:
The 30th Annual Warm Springs Tribal Member and Youth Exhibit that featured art by 20 adults and five youths, which was replaced by a traveling exhibit featuring 40 paintings by Nayana LaFond. The exhibit focused on missing and murdered indigenous relatives. And through Feb. 8, the museum will feature the 31st annual Warm Springs Tribal Member and Youth exhibit that ends Feb. 8.
The Visit Bend Sustainability Fund gave the museum funds to enhance the entrance sign, parking lot and security system.
The museum’s 2024 membership drive raised $19,000 and tripled its membership.
In addition, the museum’s board of director is discussing renewing an aging permanent exhibit, a popular attraction for visitors that tells the story of the Warm Springs people. The project could cost about $3 million. The Permanent Exhibition steering committee includes Ruth “Pinky”Beymer, Olney Patt Jr., Donald Stastny, Rain Circle, Edward heath and Rosie Tom.
Built in 1993 to Smithsonian Institution standards, the museum’s goal is to advance and share the traditions, cultural and artistic heritage of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information visit www.museumatwarmsprings.org or call (541)553-3331.
