Juanita “Nita” Hyde

March 22, 1950 – December 13, 2023

Juanita “Nita” Hyde passed away December 13, 2023 at Hospice House in Bend, Oregon, surrounded by close family members. She was born in Mobridge, South Dakota, on March 22, 1950 to Vivian (Wild) and Arnold “Jack” Chesky and grew up in nearby Selby. Nita graduated from high school in Selby and attended Northern State College, where she met her future husband Charles “Chuck” Hyde. They were wed on January 21, 1971 in Selby: a devoted marriage that lasted over 52 years. After college, they moved to McCook, Nebraska where their cherished son Charles Daniel (“Dan”) was born July 23, 1973. They then relocated to Hastings, Nebraska for a few years before moving to Bend, Oregon in 1979.

Nita began work at Equitable Savings & Loan, which was acquired by Ben Franklin S & L, and then Bank of America. She worked her way up from her initial teller position to operations manager of the downtown Bend Bank of America branch. Due to her outgoing, empathetic nature, it was common for her to be greeted by customers wherever she went, even distant cities, —all expressing appreciation for the help she had given them over the years.

Her son Dan married Darci Zea and they blessed her with three granddaughters: Emily, Catherine, and Lucie. Nita, a devoted grandmother known to the girls as “Gigi,” loved family time: board games, long walks, and family gatherings. She especially enjoyed attending her granddaughters’ many athletic and academic events. She was a devoted fan of the Trailblazers and Country music festivals.

Nita was unfailingly a loving, caring presence to family, friends, and pet dogs alike. She always found the time to lend a sympathetic ear. Her unsinkable spirit and warm heart will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband Chuck, son Dan, daughter-in-law Darci, granddaughters Emily, Catherine, and Lucie, and her beloved Mini-Aussie, Gus.

Donations in Nita’s memory may be made to Bend Partners in Care, Bend or the Make-a-Wish Foundation. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a future date.
