Deschutes County offers free yard debris drops to reduce hazardous fuels

A pile of yard debris was collected from around a home in the Tillicum Village neighborhood in Bend in 2020.

Deschutes County is hosting a series of free events for residents to dispose of yard debris. Drop-off dates and times of operation vary by location.

The events are designed to encourage Deschutes County residents to remove hazardous fuels from their yards ahead of wildfire season. There is no charge for dropping the yard debris.

Acceptable items at collection sites include grass clippings, brush, plant trimmings, pine needles, pine cones, weeds, branches and stumps of trees that are less than 12 inches in diameter.

Items that are not accepted include sod, dirt, rocks, lumber, metal, trash or any type of plastic. Stumps of trees larger than 12 inches are also not permitted. County officials advise residents to cover their loads while traveling to the collection site.

The following list includes locations, dates and times for yard debris drop-off:

Bend: Knott Landfill, 61050 SE 27th St.
