Folk artist Jeff Plankenhorn plays Saturday at The Commons in Bend.

If you don’t dig too deep, the impression you’ll get of singer-songwriter Jeff Plankenhorn is that he’s a folk singer and a skilled storyteller, his music is very melodic and heavily influenced by the blues, and he’s a world-class slide guitarist. You don’t know him, but you feel like all the evidence points to a guy who takes his craft very seriously.

And that might be true. It probably is true! But if you go to Plankenhorn’s Bandcamp profile, you’ll get a more well-rounded picture of the man. There, you’ll find a live album where you can hear him really let loose and rock. You’ll find some cover tunes, including a faithful version of Taylor Swift’s “Lover” (the song, not the full album). And you’ll find a collaborative album he made with his friend Scrappy Jud Newcomb. Its title? “Chestnuts: 10 Fun Songs!”

You know they mean it because they added the exclamation point.

Anyway, the point is that just as there is more than one side to every story, there’s more than one side to Jeff Plankenhorn. How many will he display Saturday night in downtown Bend? There’s only one way to find out.

Jeff Plankenhorn: 7 p.m. Saturday, $20, The Commons Cafe & Taproom, 875 NW Brooks St., Bend, bendticket.com.
