Bendites wanting to catch a Texas Rangers game this summer or Dallas residents considering a camping trip in the Cascades will both have an opportunity to do so starting in May when American Airlines begins nonstop service between Redmond and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
The seasonal flight starts May 6 and will run through Oct. 6, according to a news release from Redmond Airport.
The flight to Dallas comes amid a flurry of flight activity for Redmond Airport, in terms of new or restarted flights. Alaska Airlines will restart its Redmond-Portland service on Nov. 29. Earlier this month, Avelo Airlines also restarted its seasonal service to Palm Springs. The airline began the service in November 2022, ending it in March with more than 13,000 customers flying the route. Avelo also added a flight to Las Vegas in September.
The Redmond to Dallas service will operate daily, departing Redmond at 1:16 p.m., and arriving at DFW at 6:57 p.m. Going the other direction, the flight leaves DFW at 10:15 a.m., arriving in Redmond at 12:31 p.m. Round-trip tickets start at around $350.
Zach Bass, Redmond Airport director, said passenger tracking data shows that Dallas is a popular destination for travelers departing from Redmond.
“The data backs it up,” said Bass. “Dallas is one of our top 10 destinations, but we don’t have direct access, so we can show the numbers are there for this to succeed.”
Visitors are going between Central Oregon and north Texas for both tourism and business, said Bass.
“There is a lot of interconnectivity between Dallas and Central Oregon as a whole,” he said. “We are hoping that people will be excited and will book the flight. This is how we show the airlines that this works.”
Dallas has been a target destination for Redmond for several years, but Bass said delays have occurred due to COVID-19 and a pilot shortage. If the flight is a success it could become a year-round destination, he said.
Dallas is also a hub for American Airlines and offers good connections for passengers to connect to other cities worldwide. The airline has more than 800 outbound flights departing daily.
For its Redmond-Dallas flight, American Airlines will use an Airbus A320 series aircraft, large enough to seat 150 passengers, including 12 first-class seats.
Dallas is the third-most populous city in Texas and a major city for business and tourism. In addition to being home to some America’s largest sports franchises, other popular reasons to visit are its rich arts and culture scene.
With the addition of the Dallas flight, Redmond now offers direct service to 13 destinations, including Burbank, Denver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Rosa and Seattle.
Bass said the airport is working to restart a seasonal flight to Chicago.
