- The Rogue Chef food cart in Tumalo was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon.
A fire destroyed a food cart Sunday afternoon in Tumalo, fire officials said.
The Rogue Chef food cart, located at The Bite food cart lot on Seventh Street, caught fire just after 3 p.m., according to a press release from Bend Fire & Rescue.

Responding fire officials could see a “significant column of smoke” as they drove to the scene, the press release said. When they arrived, flames were going through the roof of the cart.
Firefighters put out the fire, “but the cart is a total loss,” the press release said. Officials estimate the cost of replacement is about $100,000.
Investigators with the fire department said the fire started in ducts in the hood of the kitchen, where grease had accumulated over time.
The fire sparked above a suppression system in the hood, “rendering it ineffective in holding the fire in check,” the press release said.
Bend Fire & Rescue offered the following tips to prevent kitchen fires.
“Keep combustibles away from hot surfaces, clean surfaces regularly to prevent grease accumulation, and never pour water on a grease fire. Slide a lid onto the pan (a cookie sheet will work too) and turn off the heat. Leave the lid in place until the pan is cold,” the press release said.
