Wildfire burning west of Bend grows

Smoke rises from the Bedrock Fire on Tuesday. The blaze is burning 12 miles south of Vida.

The Bedrock Fire, burning southeast of Springfield in the Willamette National Forest, had grown to 6,161 acres as of Wednesday morning, according to state fire officials.

Located on a mix of private and public land, the blaze is burning in areas with steep terrain about 12 miles south of Vida. It was zero percent contained as of Wednesday morning, according to InciWeb. It started Saturday. The cause is under investigation.

The Bedrock Fire was one of six Oregon wildfires listed Wednesday by the National Interagency Fire Center that had burned 33,337 acres.

North of Bend, containment had grown to 50% on the Simnasho Fire, burning on the Warm Springs Reservation, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry. The fire, which broke out Friday, has burned about 1,290 acres, an increase of about 40 acres since Monday.

In Klamath County, containment had grown to 15% on the Golden Fire as of Wednesday, according to a report on InciWeb. Over the weekend, the blaze burned dozens of homes and led to a loss of internet and 911 service for some residents. The fire, about 11 miles north of Bonanza, had burned more than 2,100 acres, as of Wednesday.

The state’s largest wildfire, the Flat Fire, grew to more than 23,100 acres as of Wednesday. It’s burning 2 miles southeast of Agness in Curry County, according to InciWeb and was 3% contained Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out July 15 in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, according to the report. The blaze was human-caused, and an investigation continues. As of Wednesday, nearly 1,600 people were working the fire.
