Driver’s education teachers needed

High Desert Education Service District is seeking 10 to 20 instructors for its driver’s education program, with training starting on March 11 in Redmond.

Certified instructors will earn $24 per hour and can work between two to 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling, according to a news release from the district.

Applicants will be paid for their training and time spent receiving their Oregon Department of Transportation certification. Once teachers are certified, they will work with new drivers in classrooms and on the road.

Candidates will be required to pass state and federal background checks and take Western Oregon University’s traffic safety course.

Driver’s education classes will be taught at high schools in Redmond, Crook, Jefferson, Sisters and Bend-La Pine school districts during the evening and occasionally during the regular school day. Home-school and private-school students may also sign up for the organization’s programs.

According to the website, all Bend locations have been filled. However, there are still openings for Redmond High School, Redmond Proficiency Academy and for Crook County schools. The district encourages retirees, teachers, parents, law enforcement professionals, veterans and school staff to apply.
