From the editor’s desk: The Bulletin is seeking delivery drivers

Might you or someone you know be in need of extra cash? A second, part-time job? We have just the one for you.

The Bulletin and Redmond Spokesman are hiring newspaper carriers as employees once again. In recent years the carriers have been independent contractors, hence had a lot of freedom, but the paper had little control over ensuring newspapers were delivered properly and on time.

Now, we’re hiring drivers as our employees to deliver the paper. Hours are 12:30 a.m. to 6 a.m., six days a week. Hours may vary between 10 and 29 a week and shifts may vary between 3 and 6 per week. Look at the full job advertisement here.

We also plan to start delivering the Wall Street Journal daily come February.

This signals a major change for the newspaper operation, but as many subscribers can attest, the home delivery has not been up to snuff as of late. This is our plan to rectify that. So, if you know of someone who would fill the bill, please have them apply. The ad is in our classifieds section daily, too.

We’ve gone high-tech with newspaper delivery too, employing a GPS system that pinpoints for carriers which home gets which paper. In the past, it was difficult to locate some homes simply because many do not have the street number visible. And delivering at night can prove difficult. Also, some people request a hold on their paper as they are on vacation. The GPS system tracks all that in real time. Much handier and more efficient.

In other news:

If you would prefer the digital version of our content, please feel free to sign up for that. One option includes free Sunday home delivery of the paper, too. Our e-edition (electronic replica of the daily paper) had a bit of a glitch last weekend, where readers could not access it for a few days. We apologize for that inconvenience, but our vendor has taken care of the problem.
