Sheriff’s office IDs rider killed in snowmobile crash

A snowmobile ride at Wanoga Sno-park on Sunday ended in tragedy after one person was killed in a crash.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office identified the rider Wednesday as Felipe Jesus Segura, 47, of Haslet, Texas.

Segura was killed after crashing into a tree about one mile into the forested area southwest of the Wanoga Sno-park parking lot, according to a news release from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. The accident occurred around 5 p.m. He was reportedly wearing a helmet and protective clothing at the time of the incident.

Lifesaving efforts were performed by an off-duty intensive care nurse who was riding with the injured rider. Deschutes County Search and Rescue responded to the 911 call along with deputies with the sheriff’s office. Bend Fire & Rescue paramedics were also on the scene, as well as an AirLink Critical Care Transport helicopter.

Paramedics also attempted lifesaving efforts but were unsuccessful and the injured rider died of his injuries. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
