Furniture seller Ashley HomeStore is expanding its operations in Bend, moving into the 50,000-square-foot space previously occupied by JCPenney in the Cascade Village Shopping Center.

The store, a dual concept Ashley HomeStore and Ashley Outlet, is expected to open in 2022, according to a release from the shopping center. Sharon Austin, assistant manager for the shopping center, was unable to say what month the store will open next year.

JCPenney in Bend closed its doors in 2020 amid a massive downsizing for the struggling department store chain that resulted in the closure of more than 150 stores. JCPenney had existed in Bend in different locations for more than a century, including a location on Wall Street that first opened in 1918.
