Maybe you recognize the name Jacob Jolliff. But if you don’t, you might just recognize his face and his fast-flyin’ fingers. He’s the guy who played mandolin in Yonder Mountain String Band from 2014 to 2019, and that popular newgrass outfit rolled through Central Oregon a few times in those years.
Before his Yonder days, Jolliff attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music, won the national mandolin championship in 2012 and played in the New England-based indie-roots band Joy Kills Sorrow.

These days, Jolliff is focusing on his own band of virtuoso players, which he has named … wait for it … The Jacob Jolliff Band. They play a dazzling brand of bluegrass that’s rooted in the traditions of the genre but unafraid of its more modern outgrowths. Give Jolliff’s album “Instrumentals Vol. 1” a spin and you’ll hear a whole host of influences, including jazz, Celtic music, pop and, of course, both old-time and progressive bluegrass.
The Jacob Jolliff Band: $15; 7 p.m. Sunday; Sisters Saloon, 190 E. Cascade Ave., Sisters; bendticket.com.
