Bend Roots Festival postponed

A local music and cultural festival scheduled for late September in Bend has been postponed until further notice after the owner of the Century Center notified organizers late last week that they could no longer hold the event at the facility.

Dave Hill, owner of the Century Center on 14th Street, said he decided not to host the Bend Roots Revival as scheduled Sept. 21-13 because of a couple of recent appeals of his land-use applications. The land-use cases are not directly related to the Bend Roots Revival, but Hill said he worries that the revival and any other outdoor events could generate more opposition to his land-use plans.

This morning, Jesse Roberts, one of the revival organizers, said he planned to appeal to Hill to change his mind. Roberts is the director of Rise Up, a nonprofit community arts organization.

The bullet manufacturer Nosler, which is located behind the Century Center, filed notices of intent to appeal two Century Center land-use cases to the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals on Aug. 13. However, a Nosler spokesman said this morning the company supports the Bend Roots Revival.

Nosler public relations manager Zach Waterman said the company has broader concerns about the safety of its employees because of increased traffic from the Century Center parking lot on an exit road that runs through Nosler’s employee parking lot.
