Oregon Ducks still in the running for basketball recruits

The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball program is still in search of its first commitment in the class of 2021, but may not have to wait much longer.

In the past week, Crater five-star big man Nathan Bittle trimmed his list to a final four and Clackamas four-star power forward Ben Gregg indicated he was hoping to make a college decision soon.

In both cases, Oregon is considered a strong contender.

But yet another domino fell Friday, as 247Sports five-star combo guard Jalen Warley announced an Aug. 9 commitment date on social media:

According to 247Sports, Warley is down to six schools — Florida State, Memphis, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Oregon and Virginia.

The 6-foot-4, 175-pound combo guard, out of Westtown School in Norristown, Pennsylvania, is rated the nation’s No. 23 overall prospect and No. 3 combo guard in the composite rankings, but has seen a massive jump in his stock over the past year.

As recently as September, Warley was not rated on Rivals, but has made a series of jumps over the past year and is currently listed as the nation’s No. 21 overall prospect.

So, what are odds he chooses Dana Altman’s program?

Florida State is the presumed favorite to land Warley, but Rivals recruiting expert Corey Evans indicated he believes the Ducks have “a sneaky chance.”

That may not be music to Oregon fans’ ears, but it’s certainly a recruitment worth keeping an eye on to the end.
