Locals qualify for taekwondo nationals — Four Central Oregon athletes claimed national-qualifying places at the 2019 USA Taekwondo Oregon State Championships, held Feb. 3 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. The top three placers in their respective divisions qualified to compete in the national championships this summer. Representing High Desert Martial Arts of Bend at the state championships were green belt Oaken Dollar (first place in board breaking and sparring, second in forms); blue belt Shealyn Dollar (first in board breaking and sparring, second in forms); red belt Noah Mastrullo (third in sparring and forms); and Fiona Young-Fenstermacher (first in forms, second in sparring). The 2019 USA Taekwondo National Championships are scheduled for June 28-July 4 in Minneapolis.
