Two brothers from Bend were pronounced dead at the scene of a rollover truck crash near Powell Butte early Friday morning.

A witness told Crook County Sheriff’s deputies that Joshua Eckstein, 19, was driving a Toyota Tundra east on SW Powell Butte Highway with his brother Jacob Eckstein, 21, when the pickup lost control and swerved into the other lane. After overcorrecting, the truck slid sideways onto the highway’s soft shoulder and rolled onto its side, sliding until it crashed into a juniper tree, according to a sheriff’s office.

Deputies were called to the crash at 5:53 a.m., and both brothers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies could not determine a cause of the crash, the report stated, although icy roads may have played a role.
