TRIATHLON

Local athlete wins silver in Italy — Jamie Brown, of Bend, won a silver medal in his division at the International Triathlon Union World Paratriathlon Series opener, held Saturday in Milan. On a course that included a 750-meter swim in the Idroscalo Milano, a 19.5-kilometer bike and a 5K run, Brown, 39, finished in 1 hour, 2 minutes, 49 seconds. That was good for second place in the PTS4 (moderate impairments) division. The silver is Brown’s fifth medal in ITU World Paratriathlon event competition. The ITU World Paratriathlon Series includes events later this spring and summer in Yokohama, Japan; Montreal; and Lausanne, Switzerland.

PICKLEBALL

Bend to host 3-day tourney — The Central Oregon Classic pickleball tournament is set for June 21-23 at Pine Nursery Park in Bend. The USA Pickleball Association-sanctioned event will be hosted by the Bend Pickleball Club. Registration is underway for singles and doubles play and is open to players ages 12 and older. Participants must have a current USAPA membership valid through the final day of the tournament. Online registration is available through June 13 at www.bendpickleballclub.com/upcoming-tournaments/.

RUGBY

Bend Blues drop road match — Ryan Calderon scored two tries and Drake DePriest scored one, but the Bend Blues high school team lost 37-15 to the Salem Lost Boys on Saturday in Salem. The loss put the Blues’ record at 1-4 in Rugby Oregon’s Club Championship Division. The Blues’ next game is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Big Sky Park in Bend against the Clark County Warriors.
