INLINE HOCKEY

Bend Bullets teams capture Junior Olympics gold — Two teams representing the Bend Bullets placed first in their respective youth club divisions at the AAU 2019 Inline Hockey Junior Olympics earlier this month in Kapolei, Hawaii. In the 12U-Coed division, the Bullets posted a record of 5-0 to place first in Tier One, defeating Team Australia for the gold medal. Points leaders for the Bullets were Seth Sween with 20, Wyatt Beck with 16, and Dylan Lamberto with 14. In the 14U-Coed division, the Bullets were Tier One champions with a 6-0 record that included a win over runner-up New Zealand 14U for the gold. Top scorers for the 14U Bullets were Alex Laakmann with 12 points, Hayden Desmond with 11, and Dean Buch and Parker Platt with nine apiece.

RODEO

Local cowboy victorious in Wyoming — Redmond’s Jordan Spears was the champion bull rider at the 2019 Sheridan WYO Rodeo, which concluded Saturday in Sheridan, Wyoming. Spears posted a score of 86.5 points on the bull 410 Ghost Rider to win the event by 3.5 points at the ProRodeo Tour stop. He added $5,635 in winnings to his bid to qualify for his fourth National Finals Rodeo.

Volleyball

Bend squad finishes strong at national tourney — The North Pacific Juniors Bend 12-A National volleyball team was 2-0 on its final day at the Girls Junior National Championships in Indianapolis and tied for 49th place in the 12-and-under American division of the USA Volleyball-sanctioned event. The Bend team defeated NORCO 12 Black of Colorado 26-24, 25-21 and Vienna Elite 12 of Virginia 25-14, 25-21 in single-elimination pool play July 2 at the Indiana Convention Center. The final day of the four-day competition pitted teams that compiled similar win-loss records in the first three days of the tournament into pools of four. The 64-team American division was the lowest of four in a hierarchy of divisions for the 12s age group. Bend 12-A National was 1-6 in matches leading to pool play. Team members include Kelsea Bomke, Brooke Braude, Holly Davis, Alexis Everist, Makensi Faulkner, Shelbie Hemphill, Jordyn Monaghan, Sahalie Oceguera, Emerson Saunders, Akela Utu and Raigan Walton; the team is coached by Kate Hunter.

Local 13s team plays at Junior National event — The North Pacific Juniors Bend 13-A National team tied for 62nd place in the 64-team American division for the 13s age group at the Girls Junior National Championships in Indianapolis. The USA Volleyball-sanctioned event was staged July 1-4 at the Indiana Convention Center. The Bend 13-A National team, which entered the tournament seeded 64th, was 0-8 until single-elimination pool play, where it won its first match and lost its second. The American division for 13s teams was the lowest of four in the hierarchy of competitive divisions. The Bend team, coached by Kim Sustare and Brittany Sustare, included players Katarina Cedolin, Cameryn Coughlin, Adie Galvin, Gracie Hemphill, Hailey Liederman, Mia Monaghan, Josie Olsen, Gwen Rodrigues, Abigail Toolan and Ryann Wilson.
