Sounders add Seahawks QB, others to ownership group — The Seattle Sounders are adding Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife, Ciara, to the Major League Soccer club’s ownership group, along with hip-hop artist Macklemore and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Other investors are also coming aboard while current majority owner Adrian Hanauer is increasing his investment stake in the club. Hollywood producer Joe Roth, who helped bring the MLS to Seattle, is leaving the franchise. Wilson has been attempting to get into sports ownership. He was previously a partner in an effort to build a new basketball arena in Seattle and has also been part of the project in Portland to build a stadium in the hopes of luring a Major League Baseball team to the city.
BASKETBALL
Oregon State men land 7-footer — Community college standout Roman Silva, a 7-foot-1 center from Rancho Cucamonga, California, has signed a letter of intent to join the Oregon State men’s basketball program for the 2019-20 season, Beavers head coach Wayne Tinkle and his staff announced Tuesday. “Roman will be a big, physical presence for us in the paint,” Tinkle said. “He’s a great rim protector with his size and length. We feel he’s an inside threat on both ends and will give us great depth at the center position.” Silva attended San Bernardino Valley College last season and was named Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division co-player of the year, averaging 16.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots per game while leading the team to a 22-7 record and the PCAC North championship. He will be eligible at Oregon State for the 2019-20 season and will have three years to complete two seasons.

Oregon team falls in World Series semifinal — Oregon District 4 (Willow Creek Little League of Portland) took the Southeast Region champions extra innings Tuesday before losing 3-2 in eight innings in a semifinal game at the Little League Softball World Series at Alpenrose Field in Portland. Southeast (Rowan LL of Salisbury, North Carolina) broke a 1-1 tie after the regulation six innings with two runs in the top of the eighth. The Oregon squad scored a run in the home half of the inning, but the rally ended there. Southeast advances to play the Southwest Region champion (Eastbank LL of River Ridge, Louisiana) for the World Series championship at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Southwest advanced with a 9-1 win over the Europe-Africa champion (Milano, Italy) in Tuesday’s other semifinal. Oregon District 4 plays a consolation game against Europe-Africa at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
TENNIS
Serena withdraws from tournament in Ohio —With less than two weeks before the start of the U.S. Open, Serena Williams withdrew Tuesday from a Cincinnati-area tournament, citing back issues. Williams pulled out of the Western & Southern Open before her opening-round match against Zarina Diyas. The decision came just days after the 37-year-old Williams tearfully retired during the final of the Rogers Cup in Toronto and ceded the title to Bianca Andreescu. In a statement released through the Western & Southern Open, Williams said she traveled Sunday to the tournament site in Mason, Ohio, and had “tried everything to be ready to play” Tuesday. She remained hopeful after practicing in the morning.
