Trans woman attacked in Portland — A transgender woman was attacked early Thursday near W. Burnside Street in Portland, reportedly after one of the women’s friends approached a group of men and asked for a cigarette. Atlas Marshall, who said she was attacked, told KGW one of the men spewed hate speech. “He saw me, visibly could tell I was trans, I was queer, and he started throwing homophobic and transphobic slurs at me,” Marshall said. Two men pushed her to the ground and started beating her, she said, and another friend ran to help and was punched in the face, breaking his nose. Marshall suffered scrapes and bruises. Marshall is well known in Portland’s drag community and goes by the stage name Nae Nae Dominatrix, according to the Portland Mercury. Portland Police said the incident possesses bias crime elements and is under investigation.
