- Queen Chief
Hard-rocking Portland quintet Queen Chief offers a stark, sometimes bleak, yet always catchy look at a life lived between cultures. Lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Justin Lien is half Hidatsa Native American, half Germanic/Nordic, according to a one-sheet from the band’s label, Cavity Search. He brings these touchstones to the righteously angry songs found on the band’s debut album, “Animal Stories,” a thick slab of guitar grooves that call to mind Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana and other turn-of-the-century alt-rockers. The group will play Volcanic Theatre Pub on Friday with Bend indie rockers Cosmonautical and Lurk & Loiter opening.
Queen Chief, with Cosmonautical, Lurk & Loiter: 8 p.m. Friday; $10 at the door; Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend; volcanictheatre.com or 541-323-1881.
