Oregon boat registrations need to be renewed

Oregon boat registrations will expire Dec. 31, prompting the Oregon State Marine Board to mail out approximately 37,000 renewal notices and email around 38,000 more.

Boat registration can be renewed online or through the mail. There is no additional fee for a debit or credit payment made online, the marine board said in a press release. Those who pay online also have the ability to print a temporary registration, which is effective immediately. All registration decals will be sent within seven to 10 business days of receipt of payment. They can take an additional two to four weeks to arrive through the mail. Payments can be made at www.boatoregon.com/store.

Any watercraft with a motor or sailboat 12 feet or longer is required to be titled and registered with the Oregon State Marine Board. The registration fee varies based on the length of the boat. A table of fees can be viewed at www.oregon.gov/osmb/Pages/Boat-Fees.aspx.

The marine board is directly funded by boaters through registration, title, and permit fees, as well as through marine fuel taxes. No lottery, general fund tax dollars or local facility parking fees support the agency or its programs.

Boater-paid fees support the boating public through boating safety services, boating safety education, grants for the construction and maintenance of boating access facilities and environmental protection programs.
