Rogue River drowning — James Dawson, 39, of Grants Pass, drowned Saturday afternoon in the Rogue River when he tried to swim to shore after his watercraft quit working. He was not wearing a life jacket, according to Josephine County Sheriff Dave Daniel. Crews searched for the river for hours before finding the body. The section of river where the drowning occurred is off-limits to personal watercraft.

Fisherman’s body found — Authorities have recovered the body of 52-year-old man who failed to return from a fishing trip last week. Bret Yates’ body was found on the beach at Fort Stevens State Park. The Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office said Monday there is no evidence of foul play. Yates had been reported missing Wednesday.
