Top seed Justin Kadin, a part-time Bend resident, was among the favorites to advance Wednesday with wins in the first round of match play in the men’s division of the 109th Oregon Amateur Championship at Bend Golf Club.

The men’s field was cut to the round of 32 and the women’s field is now down to the final 16, as all scheduled matches were completed despite a 105-minute suspension of play because of afternoon lightning.

The biggest upset of the day was provided by Bend’s Todd Strible, the No. 61 seed, who won 4 and 3 over Portland’s Adam Harrington, the No. 4 seed.

Bend’s Amy Anderson was part of the longest match of the day in either field. The Bend Golf Club member went 21 holes before losing to Eugene’s Jenny Krause.

The men will play two matches Thursday and the women will play one. Quarterfinal and semifinal matches are set for Friday, and 36-hole finals for both the men and the women are scheduled for Saturday.

Also Wednesday at Bend Golf Club, Redmond’s Sandy Cameron shot a 3-over-par 75 to earn medalist honors during stroke-play qualifying in the Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. Match play for the senior women begins Thursday; an 18-hole final is set for Saturday.

Complete results from Wednesday’s play are in Scoreboard on Page C2.
