Charges against man who diverted flight — Investigators say charges have been filed against a man whose screaming and threats aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Portland to Atlanta prompted an emergency landing in Oklahoma. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tulsa, Oklahoma, says Bolutife Olorunda, 29, of Vancouver, Washington, was charged Thursday with interference with flight crew members and attendants. The FBI accuses Olorunda of loudly singing and screaming Wednesday during the flight and of ignoring and threatening a flight attendant who tried to quiet him. Two U.S. air marshals controlled Olorunda on the plane. There were 172 passengers on board, and the flight eventually continued to Atlanta.

Teen’s high-speed chase — Oregon state troopers arrested a machete-wielding teenager after a car chase in which speeds hit triple digits before a fiery crash. Capt. Tim Fox says the 17-year-old from Boise, Idaho, was driving recklessly on Interstate 84 west of La Grande when a trooper tried to pull him over Wednesday. The boy accelerated, pushing the 1997 Toyota Camry to speeds of more than 110 mph. Fox says the Camry crashed into a guardrail and burst into flames. He says the uninjured boy left the vehicle armed with a machete. He fled on foot after a brief standoff, but ultimately dropped the weapon and surrendered. The teen, who is not identified in media reports, faces charges of reckless driving and eluding police.

Student charged in motel kidnapping — Police arrested an Oregon State freshman accused of kidnapping a motel worker at gunpoint and then taking the woman on a ride. Newport Police Chief Jason Malloy said Wednesday night a tip led investigators to Cedar Haddad, 19, of Corvallis. The suspect pulled a gun on the woman at 3 a.m. Saturday. He then handcuffed the woman and forced her into his car for what turned into a 90-minute ride. The driver made several stops before the victim was released unharmed in a neighborhood about a mile from the hotel. Haddad has been charged with kidnapping and menacing. Oregon State University said Haddad has been enrolled there since fall.
