1. Teacher’s Tent. Sponsored by Morrow’s Sewing & Vacuum Center and Baby Lock, Village Green across from the Sisters Fire Department, Elm Street and Washington Avenue.
The Teacher’s Tent is just two short blocks south and east of the Stichin’ Post. Each year Quilter’s Affair instructors share their world-class techniques, designs, color, and innovative ideas. These quilts are a highlight of the show.
2. Vincent van Gogh Quilt Challenge. Presented by Cherrywood Fabrics, Community Hall at the Sisters Firehouse, corner of Elm Street and Washington Avenue.
This national touring exhibit features quilts made entirely from hand-dyed suede-look cotton from Cherrywood Fabrics, who issue a challenge each year. The strong visual impact of this exhibit is due to the gorgeous intense blues of the challenge’s limited color palette—not to mention the rich subject matter of the master painter from which to draw inspiration. This exhibit has traveled the world. Donation suggested.
3. Machine Quilter Showcase featuring Mike Denton. Sponsored by Nugget News.
Mike learned to sew during his high school years and owned his own machine when he married in 1967. He took up quilting in 2009, attending the Absolutely Beginning Quilting class taught by Lawry Thorn at the Stitchin’ Post. He excels at the intricate fitting of fabric pieces to make new patterns where there were none.

Our annual tribute to the men whose quilt is displayed in one exhibit to show the range of talent and age.
5. Threads that Bind, quilts by Central Oregon SAQA. Sponsored by Clearwater Gallery and Open Door Wine Bar, in their courtyard.
For our 2018 challenge, our members explore in fabric the “threads” that hold our art, our lives, and our communities together. This exhibit showcases the varied interpretations of this theme by a diverse group of talented art quilters.
6. 2018 Storybook, Creative Trails Storybook: Quilts for Auction by various artists. Sponsored by Clearwater Gallery and Open Door Wine Bar, in their courtyard.
Various Central Oregon quilters. Come see the larger-than-life storybook with quilted pages, each one telling a unique story. These quilts are for sale by silent auction in the courtyard of the Open Door Wine Bar.
7. Featured Gallery Artist Marion Shimoda. Sponsored by Clearwater Gallery, inside the gallery.
Shimoda is an artist who sees the world with fresh, whimsical eyes and then creates her own interpretations using hand-stitching, improvisational piecework, hand-dyed fabrics, skinny lines, textiles, and found objects to create one-of-a-kind quilts, sculptures, and ornaments.
8. Sisters of the Heart, Quilts from Uganda. Sponsored by Sisters Coffee Company, inside Sister Coffee Company.
Quilts in this exhibit are made by a group of women in Uganda, Africa. Proceeds from the sale of their work goes back to Africa and into a micro-loan fund designed to help and support more women in the villages. This wonderful program is facilitated by the amazing Sisters quilter Janet Storten.
9. 2018 Featured Quilter Liz Weeks. Sponsored by the Depot Deli, Ponderosa Properties, 221 Ash Street.
Weeks’ mother and grandmother taught her to sew, knit, crochet, and embroider. On a trip to Australia in 1999, she learned about quilters, shop hops, and fabric collecting. After returning from that trip, she took classes and started down the road of fat quarters, mats, rulers, and rotary cutters. She’s now teaching her grandchildren how to quilt.
10. 2018 Inspirational Instructor Colleen Blackwood. Sponsored by Sew Many Quilts, 220 Ash Street.
Each year we honor one of our talented Central Oregon instructors with this exhibit, paying tribute to a teacher who goes above and beyond to share their knowledge and skill. The joy of sharing with other quilters planted the seed of teaching for Blackwood. She came to realize that confidence and enjoyment are as big a part of the class experience as being a stickler for perfection.
11. Hand Made Tale: Quilts by Anne Zick. Beacham’s Clock Co., 300 Hood Avenue.
Central Oregon quilter and 22-year volunteer and Friend of the Show, Anne Zick shares quilts inspired by both her life at Black Butte Ranch and her Midwest roots. Anne frequently submits her quilts to all AQS shows.
12. Made You Look by ab-strakt-ed. Sponsored by Santa Barbara Quilt Retreats, Beacham’s Clock Shop, 300 Hood Avenue.
A group of four Santa Barbara artists, ab-strakt-ed is exhibiting improvisationally pieced abstract art quilts.
13. Words Unbound by Portland Modern Quilt Guild. Sponsored by Paulina Springs Books, Paulina Springs Books courtyard.
Words Unbound is a collection of quilts made by the members of the Portland Modern Quilt Guild in 2017 that use words and other elements to convey the maker’s intent. The guild is a diverse group of individuals who have come together to form a strong community with shared creative interests.
14. Let the Quilt Tell the Story: Quilts by Celeste Percy. Sponsored by Raven Makes Gallery, 178 Elm Street at Hood Avenue.
Celeste Percy is a machine quilter in Eugene whose work was brought to our attention in last year’s storybook quilt by Mary Nyquist Koons. We received a flood of inquiries about her work and requests to see more.
15. Youth Activity Area and Next Generation Quilters Exhibit. Sponsored by SG & FH Cobb Youth Award, in the parking lot at Melvin’s by Newport Avenue Market, 160 Fir Street.
Youths ages 7–16 are welcome to discover the art of sewing and quilting. Members of the 4H Crazy Quilters volunteer to help participants select from several make-and-take projects for kids to keep. Come see the winner of the 2018 SG & FH Cobb Youth Award “Best in Show” receive a $100 cash prize.
16. Quilters Choice Mystery by Crook County Quilt Guild. Sponsored by The Quilt Shack, corner lot at Spruce Street and Hood Avenue.
The Crook County Quilt Guild began this mystery in September 2017. The pattern is based in part on a design by Peggy Gelbrich that appeared as a block of the month in Country Pleasures magazine in 2009.
17. Quilts of Jill Monley. Sponsored by FivePine Lodge, inside FivePine Lodge.
The beautiful interior of FivePine Lodge is the perfect place to see quilts made by Jill Monley. Many know Jill for her leadership of and participation in Central Oregon guilds and quilting groups. You will enjoy the breadth and scope of her work displayed in the lodge.
18. Morrow’s Sewing & Vacuum Center on the lawn behind the Stitchin’ Post.
For more than 28 years, Morrow’s Sewing & Vacuum Center has been closely involved with Quilter’s Affair and the quilt show. Morrow’s demonstrates and sells their sewing machines at the quilt show. Please take a moment to meet these wonderful sponsors and thank them for their continuous support!
19. The Stitchin’ Post Employee Challenge Quilts. Presented by the Stitchin’ Post, the Stitchin’ Post east wall on Oak Street.
Each year the employees of the Stitchin’ Post interpret the show’s annual theme.
20. C4C Visioning/Community Quilt
Citizens 4 Community invited residents of Sisters to create a quilt of the values they cherish about Sisters. Come see the quilt created with the help of the East of the Cascades Quilt Guild.
21. SOQS Raffle Quilt and Custom Cruiser Bike Raffle. Sponsored by Sno Cap Drive In, lawn behind the Stitchin’ Post.
Winning tickets are drawn at 4 p.m. at the quilt show.
21. SOQS Quilt Block Contest. Sponsored by FreeSpirit Fabrics, lawn behind the Stitchin’ Post.
Thanks to the generous support of FreeSpirit Fabrics, our annual Quilt Block Contest challenges quilters to create a block using Kathy Doughty’s Horizons fabrics. Cash prizes are awarded when the Quilter’s Affair instructors select the Best in Show. Come see the variety of designs and talents exhibited.

23. Blockin’ with the Robins by Blockin’ Robbins. Sponsored by BJ’s Quilt Basket, MacKenzie Creek Mercantile, 290Cascade Avenue.
For this project, a Kaffe Fassatt fabric was chosen to include in the completed quilts. Each participant selected a pattern, book, or inspiration along with fabric and placed them in a container, which was passed monthly to another quilter round-robin style. Can you find the focus fabric?
24. Best of QuiltCon 2018. Presented by the Modern Quilt Guild, Cascade of Gifts, Barclay Square, Last Resort, 150 Cascade Avenue.
QuiltCon is the international show and conference of the Modern Quilt Guild. This exhibit is the crème de la crème of the 2018 QuiltCon.
25. Collage Quilts by East of the Cascade Quilt Guild. Sponsored by Three Creeks Brewery, Barclay Park at Ash Street and Cascade Avenue.
East of the Cascade Quilt Guild of Sisters present their collage quilts depicting animals, people, and landscapes. The collage quilts are an artistic composition of pieces of cloth that have been adhered to a fabric background. Enjoy the variety!
26. The Periodic Table of Elements by Mt. Bachelor Guild. Sponsored by QuiltWorks, Dixie’s Western Wear, 100 Cascade Avenue.
How can you depict cadmium, bismuth, hydrogen, or any of the chemical elements on the periodic table? Come see how these quilters explored and stretched their imagination in these art quilts. No chemistry degree required!
27. Low Volume with Negative Space by Central Oregon Modern Guild. Sponsored by The Bulletin,211 Cascade Avenue (formerly Sisters Drug & Gift).
The 2018 group challenge was to use solids with a graphic element. It was quite a challenge to use exclusively solid fabrics; however, the members stepped up to create an assortment of fabulous quilts!
28. The Lady Series: Quilts of Freddy Moran. Sponsored by the Stitchin’ Post, Cascade Sotheby’s Realty, 290 Cascade Avenue.
Freddy Moran is a popular teacher, lecturer, and award-winning quiltmaker as well as an artist and author known for her unbridled use of bold color and originality. “I consider red a neutral,” she says.
29. Two Rivers, Three Sisters. Sponsored by the City of Sisters, inside Sisters City Hall.
This permanent exhibit, created in 2012, was a joint project of many fiber artists and the National Forest Foundation to raise awareness and funds for restoration efforts on the Metolius River and Whychus Creek. The 40-foot long, 17-panel quilt depicts the forest and rivers surrounding Sisters.
30. Reflection and Renewal by MIX. Inside Sisters Public Library
Portland’s Japanese Garden, created in 1967, completed an expansion and renewal project in April 2017. Intrigued by the endeavor to add an architectural space to what is mostly a serene garden, MIX established a challenge to create a primary piece measuring 24 inches square, a smaller piece measuring 24 by 10 inches, and perhaps a third small piece to show their wonder at this beautiful spiritual sanctuary.
31. Wish Upon A Card fabric postcard sale and silent auction. Sponsored by High Desert Frameworks, Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce, 291 Main Avenue.
Fundraiser for the SOQS Arts Scholarship Fund for Sisters High School students. Fabric postcards, donated from across the country, are sold and auctioned to raise funds. Custom framing of some of the cards is donated by High Desert Frameworks of Bend.
32. Three Times Ten: Our Quilt Journey by Mountain Meadow Quilters Guild. Sponsored by Ray’s Food Store, on the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce lawn.

33. The Mysterious Redmond Geese Migration by High Desert Quilt Guild Redmond. Sponsored by Material Girl Fabrics, 484 Washington Avenue (formerly Live Love Yoga).
The High Desert Quilt Guild was founded in Redmond in January 2016. They love their Mystery Quilts and we think youwill too!
34. Remembering Carmen Hull, by friends of Carmen Hull. Sponsored by Blue Burro Imports, 161 Elm Street.
How do you honor your dear wife, friend, quilter, community volunteer? Friends and family of Carmen Hull remember her with their own work and a display of some of Carmen’s quilts.
35. Crown & Country: Quilts from the United Kingdom. Sponsored by Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty, Main Avenue from Elm Street to Fir Street.
P&Q Tours Ltd visited our quilt show in 2016 to help plan a tour from the UK. Not only did they put a tour together but they had their guests create a special exhibit. 36. Kathy Deggendorfer’s Quilters Road Trip: Studio Open House and Sale. Sisters Art Works backyard, 204 Adams Street.
Kathy Deggendorfer launched a new line of fabrics, Quilters Road Trip, by Maywood Studios. She invited some fun vintage trailers to set up Quilt Camp behind the Sisters Art Works building, which will feature some of Valori Wells’s fabulous quilts. Thursday July 12–Saturday, July 14, Kathy Deggendorfer Open Studio inside the Sisters Art Works building, 204 Adams Street.
