Sure, you could spend New Year’s Eve like a living meme, trying to cue up Phil Collins’ drum solo in “In the Air Tonight” to play at exactly midnight. Or you could catch some live music. No matter which show you decide on, you’re pretty much guaranteed an awesome musical moment to usher in your 2018.

• The free Countdown to the New Year shows continue at McMenamins this week with Mark Ransom and The Mostest playing Thursday, Thomas T and The Blue Chips on Friday and Tone Red on Saturday. Portland’s instrumental livetronica trio and Bend frequent flyer Yak Attack returns for New Year’s Eve; the band plays the Old St. Francis School theater while locals Broken Down Guitars and Gabe Johnson (of Elektrapod, Watkins Glen and Parallel 44 Presents) rock out Father Luke’s Room. The New Year’s Eve celebration is ticketed, and the $10 cover gets you into both shows.

• Eugene’s Americana-pop-soulgrass institution, The Sugar Beets, will once again bring a stomping dance party to The Belfry for New Year’s Eve. The eclectic eight-piece celebrated its 25th anniversary as a band at The Belfry in 2015, and last brought its New Year’s Eve show to the venue in 2014.

• Greenwood Avenue is often the place to be for music lovers, with up to three very active venues — the Midtown Ballroom complex, M&J Tavern and the newly renovated Silver Moon Brewing — often hosting music acts simultaneously. New Year’s Eve is no exception, with local music at the latter two venues. Stop by Silver Moon for Latin dance lessons from Latin Dance Bend and the subsequent dance party with ¡Chiringa!, or take in some gritty roots rock with singer-songwriter Jess Ryan and her quartet.
