With the specter of a massive earthquake along the Cascadia Subduction Zone looming, the American Red Cross is holding a free preparedness presentation in Bend next week.

The organization announced Friday that it will hold a Prepare Out Loud presentation at the Tower Theater, at 835 NW Wall St. in Bend, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Prepare Out Loud presentations are free, interactive sessions that focus on local and regional disaster risks, according to a news release from the American Red Cross.

A resource fair will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., and will be followed by a presentation from Steve Eberlein, who witnessed the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami in Sri Lanka. A short panel discussion from local emergency management leaders will follow the presentation, according to the release.

Attendees can expect to learn about what could happen during an earthquake or large-scale emergency, how to prepare quickly for such an event and what supplies they should have available, among other topics, according to the release.

People interested in attending should RSVP at redcross.org/POLBend.
