Some sold-out shows worth mentioning this week:
• Three Portland-based guitarists will explore jazz and beyond at Jazz at the Oxford on Friday and Saturday. Dan Balmer, who performed with three trios at the final Riverhouse Jazz show last year, teaches at Lewis And Clark College and has worked with Joey DeFrancesco, Terell Stafford and more. Dan Faehnle earned praise for his work with Diana Krall in the early 2000s. And John Stowell launched his career in New York City in the 1970s and continues to tour the world.
Dan Balmer, Dan Faehnle and John Stowell: 7 p.m. Friday and 5 and 8 p.m. Saturday; sold out; Jazz at the Oxford, The Oxford Hotel, 10 NW Minnesota Ave., Bend; jazzattheoxford.com or 541-382-8436.
• No, it’s not summer already, but perennial favorite Michael Franti is coming back to Bend on Wednesday, roughly five months after his annual Les Schwab Amphitheater performance.
This time, he will screen his new documentary, the emotionally charged and deeply personal “Stay Human,” at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon, followed by a Q&A session and a trio performance featuring Carl Young (Franti’s guitarist in Spearhead) and singer-songwriter Victoria Canal, who opened for Franti at Les Schwab this year.
Michael Franti documentary screening and performance: 7 p.m. Wednesday, doors open at 6 p.m.; sold out; Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon, 61980 Skyline Ranch Road, Bend; newportavemarket.com or 541-385-3908.
