Bend Radio Group’s country music concert series at Oregon Spirit Distillers will hit an undeniable peak with Dwight Yoakam’s sold-out show Thursday. The sellout isn’t surprising, given Yoakam’s hit-making prowess — two No. 1 hits and 14 top 10s on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart since his 1986 debut album, “Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.” More impressive, though, is the music itself — a pioneering mix of honky-tonk tradition and gritty rock ’n’ roll abandon that has earned Yoakam fans in some surprising places (he got his start in Los Angeles, playing many of the same punk clubs bands such as X and The Blasters played). Yoakam has continued to do country music his own way, experiencing a late-career renaissance with 2012’s collaboration-heavy album “3 Pears.” His latest release, 2016’s “Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars …”, finds the songwriter reimagining his hits with bluegrass instrumentation — though as usual, he puts his own twist on the style.
Dwight Yoakam: 8 p.m. Thursday; sold out; Oregon Spirit Distillers, 740 NE First St., Bend; bendticket.com or 541-382-0002.
