Local roots music institution Moon Mountain Ramblers will play its first local show of the year at McMenamins Old St. Francis School on Wednesday. The gig comes after news that violinist Jenny Harada Wasson was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma; according to a post on the band’s Facebook page, she began chemotherapy this week. Local musicians have already pulled together to help, with a benefit show featuring Tone Red and Moon Mountain slated Feb. 20 at Volcanic Theatre Pub (more on that one in the coming weeks — stay tuned). For now, the band will keep playing — the full lineup played in Mount Shasta, California, on Jan. 20, and Wasson may be onstage at McMenamins too, according to vocalist/guitarist Matthew “Mai” Hyman.
“We’ve been rocking at practice and stuff, and the gigs went good,” he said. “… When we were doing the Mount Shasta gig, she’s like, ‘We’ve just gotta go for it, you know?’ What else are we gonna do?”
Moon Mountain Ramblers: 7 p.m. Wednesday; free; McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St., Bend, mcmenamins.com or 541-382-5174.
