TENNIS

Clay-court season ends — Philipp Kohlschreiber won his eighth career ATP tour title by defeating Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the Generali Open on Saturday in Kitzbuehel, Austria. The 47th-ranked German rallied from a break down in both sets to win the final clay-court event of the season. Kohlschreiber, who resides in Kitzbuehel, also won the title two years ago after coming runner-up in 2012.

SWIMMING

Lochte returns to pool — In his first USA Swimming-sanctioned event after a 10-month suspension for his behavior at Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Ryan Lochte finished fifth in the men’s 100-meter backstroke final Saturday at the U.S. Open in East Meadow, New York. Lochte will swim in the 200 individual medley Sunday, when he is the top seed. The weeklong event, held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center, is serving as Lochte’s first recognized competitive meet since Rio. Lochte has said he is eyeing a spot on the 2020 Olympic team. The 33-year old has won six Olympic gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals in four Olympics. He would turn 36 during the 2020 Tokyo Games.

MOTOR SPORTS

Kyle Busch wins Xfinity at The Glen — Kyle Busch won the Xfinity race at Watkins Glen International on Saturday, recovering from a spinout and a pit road penalty for the milestone victory. Busch topped the Penske Racing duo of Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski and easily beat them on a restart with three laps to go for his 90th series win. Watkins Glen International and Pocono were the only tracks currently on the Xfinity schedule where Busch had not won. He has also won on every track in the Cup series except Charlotte.

BOXING

Lomachenko defends belt — Vasyl Lomachenko stopped Miguel Marriaga after seven rounds Saturday night in Los Angeles to defend his WBO 130-pound title for the third time in nine months. Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs), the two-time Olympic gold medalist from Ukraine, knocked down Marriaga (25-3) in the third round and floored Marriaga again in the waning seconds of the seventh, and the challenger’s corner stopped the bout after the bell.

SOCCER

Neymar misses PSG opener — Without Neymar on the field, Paris Saint-Germain still got a winning start by beating promoted Amiens 2-0 in the French league opener. World-record signing Neymar was ineligible to play because of paperwork issues. So just like the fans, Neymar watched from the stands. The French league did not receive his international transfer certificate from the Spanish federation before Friday night’s deadline, despite his 222 million euro ($262 million) move from Barcelona being completed the previous day.
