“COCO”

Rating: PG for thematic elements.

What it’s about: A boy travels to the realm of the dead on Dia de los Muertos to learn about his family history and love of music.

The kid attractor factor: The animated feature from Disney-Pixar is sure to attract kids and families.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Always tell your family you love them, remember your ancestors, share your passions, family is more important than anything.

Violence: Some chase and harrowing scenes. The film deals with issues of death and dying in a very forthright and beautiful way.

Language: None.

Sexuality: None (some skeleton spirits smooch).

Drugs: None

Parents advisory: A beautiful and emotional film that’s fun for the whole family.

“THE MAN WHO 
INVENTED CHRISTMAS”

Rating: PG for thematic elements and some mild language.

What it’s about: The writing of Charles Dickens’ novel “A Christmas Carol,” which brought Christmas back to popularity in 1843.

The kid attractor factor: The holiday theme, the broad comedy, star Dan Stevens.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Learn to be generous with your heart, not just your material goods.

Violence: Some darker themes about death, ghosts, and grotesque child labor.

Language: No real swearing but some insinuation.

Sexuality: Talk of pregnancy and engagements but no real sexuality.

Drugs: None.

Parents advisory: This may be a bit too scary for some younger children, but a fine twist on the family holiday movie for older kids and parents.
