Summit girls win top division at George Fox

GERVAIS — Two Maxes and a Vandenborn led the Summit girls to 73 points and a first-place finish in the gold division of the George Fox XC Classic on Saturday.

Fiona Max took second for the Storm, Taylor Vandenbordn placed fourth and Isabel Max was sixth to help Summit win the division by 30 points over Arizona’s Xavier College Preparatory.

In the girls silver division, Anna Bartlett finished 10th to lead Sisters to 176 points and a seventh-place showing. Redmond, which was 12th with 228 points, was led by Kim Roberts’ 13th-place finish. North Salem topped the 14-team standings with 65 points.

The Summit boys took eighth with 212 points in the boys gold division as Jett Ballantyne placed sixth overall. Camas (Washington) was first in the 17-team field with 62 points.

Jordan Pollard was fourth in the boys silver division, and Sisters posted 186 points to take 10th as a team. Treyson Conley was 15th to highlight Redmond, which was 12th of 17 teams with 254 points. Ridgefield (Washington) won with 85 points.

Girls soccer

Corvallis 3, Mountain View 0: Unable to convert on two scoring opportunities late in the first half, host Mountain View was shut out by Class 5A No. 7 Corvallis in a nonconference match. In the 35th minute and again in the 38th, the Cougars were foiled on what coach Donnie Emerson said were “one-on-one chances with their keeper.” The Spartans led 1-0 at halftime and pulled away for their fourth straight win.

Cowgirls reach silver bracket finals at West Linn Tournament: WEST LINN — Crook County (8-1 Tri-Valley Conference) fell to Class 6A Sunset 25-14, 25-9 in the silver bracket finals of the West Linn Tournament. The Cowgirls lost to Jesuit and then beat Reynolds in pool play and then went on to beat St. Mary’s 25-16, 25-12 and North Medford 25-20, 25-18 in the silver bracket. Cassidy Dill had 28 kills during the day-long tournament, Raegan Wilkins had 19 kills and Kerigan Waibel 14. Kenna Woodward recorded 11 kills and nine aces, and Mekynzie Wells had 61 digs.

Trinity Lutheran 3, Monument/Dayville 0; Damascus 3, Trinity Lutheran 0: MAUPIN — Hailie Bishop had nine kills and 14 digs, and Clara Cassanova had 16 assists and six kills to lead the Saints past Monument/Dayville, 25-12, 25-17, 25-19, in a tournament at South Wasco County High. Trinity Lutheran lost to Damascus, 25-15, 26-24, 25-11, led by five kills from Bishop, 12 digs from Emma McKim and 10 digs from Erin Klepper.

Central Christian 3, Prospect 0: REDMOND — The Tigers closed out their Mountain Valley League schedule with their second MVL win, a 25-10, 25-21, 25-20 sweep of the visiting Cougars. Kailie Fisher and Myka Delamarter each had five kills and Eren Wynne and Katelyn Rickabaugh had four aces apiece for Trinity Lutheran (2-7 MVL).

Boys water polo

Cougars take title: MADRAS — Preston Carey had four goals, five steals and two assists, and Mountain View defeated Ashland 12-4 to win the Madras Tournament championship. Taiton Fox added three goals, three assists and five steals for the Cougars, and Noah Weedman finished with three goals, three assists and a steal. Iqmal Wolfenden had nine blocks in goal for Mountain View. The Cougs earned a spot in the championship after routing South Salem 14-2 earlier in the day. In that match, Fox totaled seven goals, two steals and two blocks, while Weedman, Carey and Tarren Black each scored twice.
