PAISLEY — Gilchrist stormed back from a first-set loss to beat Paisley 19-25, 25-12, 25-16, 25-22 in a girls volleyball nonleague match Friday.
“The only reason it was as close as it was (in the fourth set) was they were worn out,” Gilchrist coach Candice Roseberry said of her team. “We started losing some points, and I asked, ‘Do you want to play another game?’ And they were like, ‘No!’”
Kendra Spurlock tallied 19 kills, nine aces, eight assists and four blocks for the Grizzlies, and Rayenee Hoover recorded nine kills and four aces. Katie McDaniel had 18 assists, seven kills, four digs and three aces in a performance that coach Candice Roseberry described as the best of the sophomore setter’s career.
“I kind of saw it on their faces that they were shaking off the rust (in the first game),” Roseberry said. “Then they turned around and started taking control.”
The match was a nonleague contest that will not count for conference standings, although both Paisley and the No. 8 Grizzlies are in the Mountain Valley League.
