Family safely evacuated from home fire

A family of five, including a newborn, were safely evacuated from a home fire on Cedarwood Road in Woodriver Village early Wednesday morning, according to a report from the Bend Fire Department.

Firefighters found the house in flames when they arrived. It was quickly extinguished, and embers that spread to nearby dry vegetation in the neighborhood were prevented from reaching nearby homes.

Officials said the family awoke to the smell of smoke, but the one smoke alarm in the home did not activate. The Red Cross is providing help to the family, including a place to stay and clothing. All their belongings were lost in the fire.
