Serengeti brings underground hip-hop to Bend

Since 2003, Serengeti (the rapper born David Cohn, not the region in Africa) has played the hip-hop game his own way, releasing solo projects and collaborations at a break-neck pace and touring on his own, with no publicist or manager. The black, Jewish Chicagoan is known for inventing a wide cast of characters in his raps, including his most famous: Kenny Dennis, a white, middle-aged, Chicago Bears and Bulls superfan who makes frequent references to Chicago culture and has been the subject of many Serengeti records, most recently the sprawling “Kenny Dennis III” (2014). Serengeti is currently touring behind last year’s “Doctor My Own Patience,” a collaboration album with German electronic artist Sicker Man; catch him with Ceschi, Chisme, Driftwood and Insomnia at The Capitol on Sunday.

Serengeti, with Ceschi, Chisme, Driftwood, Insomnia: 9 p.m. Sunday; $7 plus fees in advance; The Capitol, 190 NW Oregon Ave., Bend; thecapitolbend.com or 541-678-5740.
