January 15, 1933–April 17, 2017
Ken was born on January 15, 1933, in Long Beach, California, and passed away on April 17, 2017, in Bend, Oregon. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict 1951-1953. He married Evangeline (Angie) Mersinas on October 11, 1968, in San Diego, California, and they moved to Bend in 1973. There, he established his business, Bend Import Automotive, from which he retired in 1995.
For many years, Ken restored and raced sports cars, competing at racetracks throughout the West Coast.
After retiring, he spent time in Loreto, Baja, Mexico, and became conversant in Spanish, which he continued to practice the rest of his life with local friends.
Ken was an accomplished woodworker and he maintained a flower garden from April through October on the corner of NE 10th Street and Franklin. Ken gave flower seeds to anyone who asked, and there are generations of poppies and cosmos growing in gardens throughout the neighborhood that originated in Ken’s garden.
Ken is survived by his wife, Angie; children, Bill (Natalie), Carolyn (Bret), and Stephanie; grandchildren, Tori, Jess, Alex, Alexia, Siena, Mia, and Zack; and numerous nieces and nephews.
