Anna L. (Grow) Boales, born April 9, 1920, in St. Johns, Oregon, now a neighborhood area of Portland, Oregon, to Frank and Opal (Glancy) Grow, died October 9, 2011, in Redmond, Oregon, at the age of 91.
Anna graduated from Lincoln High School in Portland, Oregon, one of the two oldest public high schools west of the Mississippi River.
After High School Anna married Raymond F. Yackee. Ray served this nation in the United States Navy during World War II, and gave his life while serving to keep the United States the greatest nation on earth. She later married James Boales on Oct. 31, 1946, who was also in the United States Navy, and made it a career. He also served during World War II, plus Korea and the Cuban Missile Crisis. James also died on June 8, 1999.
During World War II Anna also served her country by working as a welder of ships in Portland, Oregon. She later became an operator for the telephone company and served in this capacity for many years.
After retiring from the Navy in the early 1960s James and Anna moved to Burns, Oregon, She later moved to Redmond, Oregon, and became a member of Emmaus Lutheran in Redmond, and then a member of Concordia Lutheran Mission in Terrebonne.
Anna enjoyed gardening, reading poetry, and writing children’s stories, she had a love for the arts, and loved to hear all the news about her daughters, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.
Anna was preceded in death by both husbands, Ray and James; and one granddaughter, Alecia. She is survived by her three daughters, Pennelopy from her marriage with Raymond, and Doni and Mary Ann from her marriage with James; two brothers, Charles and James; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A service was held Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Redmond Memorial Chapel.
