“SNOWDEN”

Rating: R for language and some sexuality/nudity.

Most Popular

What it’s about: A biopic about notorious NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

The kid-attractor factor: Stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley. Tech-spy thriller could be a draw for teens.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Sometimes the government does illegal or immoral things, and it should be held accountable. Sometimes you have to do something wrong to do something right.

Violence: Drone strikes and other acts of war, though this is predominantly relegated to cyberwarfare and espionage.

Language: Some strong language throughout.

Sexuality: A sex scene with partial nudity.

Drugs: Some casual drinking.

Parents advisory: While the genre and general content of “Snowden” might not appeal to kids, it is appropriate for teens who might be interested, and could spur an interesting discussion about online privacy and internet surveillance.

“BRIDGET JONES’S BABY”

Rating: R for language, sex references and some nudity.

What it’s about: The beloved British Bridget Jones is back. Once again she has two men vying for her affection, but this time it’s the paternity of her child that’s in question.

The kid-attractor factor: The rom-com genre and broad comedy.

Good lessons/bad lessons: You’re perfectly you just the way you are, flaws and all (which the right person will find charming); it’s always best to be honest and confront awkward issues head on; be kind to yourself and others and always be yourself.

Violence: A punch in the nose to an unfortunate would-be father while Bridget is in labor.

Language: Many instances of the f-bomb and other assorted British slang; some pretty frank sex talk and euphemisms.

Sexuality: Sex is one of the film’s driving themes, so there’s plenty of discussion, allusion, euphemism and a couple of sex scenes. There’s some nudity that’s played for laughs, rather than titillation.

Drugs: Plenty of drinking.

Parents advisory: The graphic sex talk is inappropriate for children, but the content is fine for teens.
