Studded tires allowed Nov. 1

Driving with studded tires will be permitted beginning Nov. 1.

Dave Thompson, a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Transportation, encourages drivers to consider other options such as chains or non-studded traction tires because studs cause road damage. He said tires with a triple peak mountain and snowflake symbol have been accredited as suitable in severe winter weather conditions by the tire industry and provide better traction than studded tires in most cases.
