Details: A new building in La Pine for a discount grocery and a discount variety store is being built quickly, and the property owner expects one of the businesses to open by October.

Janet Burton, La Pine-area manager for Economic Development for Central Oregon, said the building, on U.S. Highway 97 at Finley Butte Road, will house a Dollar Tree store and a Grocery Outlet.

Dickerhoof Properties, a Corvallis-based firm co-owned by brothers Matt and Darren Dickerhoof, has worked on around three dozen commercial projects across the state. Darren Dickerhoof said about a third of those projects are in Central Oregon, including the recently completed Market of Choice grocery store in Bend. He said the company has worked on a building that housed a Grocery Outlet store in Prineville and that it purchased the land in La Pine near the end of 2015.

Dickerhoof said the Dollar Tree will take up the north side of the building and occupy around 9,000 square feet. Grocery Outlet will occupy more than 18,000 square feet on the south side.

Construction began May 1. The Dollar Tree store is slated to open by the middle of the fall; the grocery store will likely open in early 2017.

While much of the architecture will resemble other stores owned by the two chains, the La Pine building will feature a wood facade rather than the typical stucco style, Dickerhoof said.

“The city of La Pine wanted that Craftsman look that you see a lot in Central Oregon,” Dickerhoof said.
