The Oregon DMV announced it will begin accepting debit and credit card transactions at its offices.

Offices in Dallas, McMinnville, and two locations in Salem were the first to install debit- and credit-card systems in May. The DMV said the remaining offices throughout Oregon are scheduled for software installation and employee training throughout the next four months.

Before the pilot program began, the DMV only started accepting debit and credit card payments online for vehicle registration renewals in 2004 while taking cash, checks, and money orders in-person.

Bend, Prineville, Madras, and Redmond DMV locations will begin accepting debit and credit cards by October.
