Redmond is a great place in the summer for family activities. One of the largest and longest running concerts is Music on the Green at Sam Johnson Park. The Redmond Chamber of Commerce & CVB is proud to put on the concert series again this year with the help of title sponsors Bank of the Cascades and Eberhard’s Dairy Products.
Music on the Green has always focused on family-friendly fun, including bounce houses, food and room to run and play. This season will take things to a whole new level. Hope Playground, situated just northeast of the Music on the Green stage, adds amenities to make this season more entertaining, inclusive and fun. You’ll recognize the same great concerts and vendors, but also enjoy a new grassy berm and walkway to enjoy new views while also keeping a better eye on the kiddos. Redmond Area Park and Recreation District (RAPRD) will also be on site with games and activities.
Music on the Green will start Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 6 p.m., and return every other Wednesday throughout the summer. Lawn chairs or blankets are encouraged and pets are welcome too (provided they are on a leash). For the adults, local brewed beverages will also be available. Parking is available onsite and from a short walk from the surrounding blocks, including the Skate Park/Bowlby Field.
“Our music is crowd-pleasing to everyone, from parents with young kids to seniors from nearby retirement homes,” said Karen Sande, events director for the Redmond Chamber of Commerce. “Many seniors actually arrive by bus to enjoy the easy access, excellent acoustics, and comfortable temperatures created by the canyon’s natural barrier from the wind.”
Music on the Green strives to have something for everyone. Expect a diverse mix of artists and genres, covering country, bluegrass, ethnic, and popular sounds.
“Each year, we strive to book a range of local musical acts that, as the season unfolds, offer families and music lovers a good mix of genres,” said Sande. “We succeeded in doing that again this year. I’m thrilled to offer our community a lineup of top-notch music from established local bands as well as from performers who are on the upswing of their musical careers.”
The series will again conclude with Redmond’s own Hokulea Dancers. The Polynesian dancing and drumming is a staple of Music on the Green and provides a unique opportunity for viewers to become part of the show.
“The Hokulea Dancers have quite a following in Central Oregon, and their performances never disappoint,” Sande said. “Their show is musical, it’s colorful and it’s interactive. We find it’s the perfect way the end the summer season — Hawaiian style.”
While Music on the Green is free to attend, the event also features a variety of food, art and craft vendors, and bounce houses throughout the park. So be sure to bring a few bucks and support the local vendors that keep this event going.
