- Gramercy Pictures / Submitted photoRatchet (voiced by David Kaye), right, and his helper Clank (voiced by James Arnold) try to save the galaxy in the video game adaptation “Ratchet & Clank.”
‘RATCHET & CLANK’
Rating: PG for action and some rude humor.
What it’s about: A young space creature, Ratchet, dreams of saving the galaxy with the Galactic Rangers, and soon gets a chance to battle the evil Dreck with the help of robot Clank.
The kid-attractor factor: This weekend’s animated feature is based off characters from a Playstation game.
Good lessons/bad lessons: When it comes to being a hero, you don’t have to do the big things, just the right things. Blaming yourself is not the same as taking responsibility.
Violence: Guns, guns and more guns. The Rangers love to blast things with space blasters of all kinds. But the violence is animated, not graphic or gory.
Language: None
Sexuality: None
Drugs: None
Parents advisory: This would be fine for almost all kids, but maybe too intense for the littlest ones.
‘MOTHER’S DAY’
Rating: PG-13 for language and some suggestive material.
What it’s about: An interconnected narrative about mothers, parents and families of all different kinds, loosely organized around Mother’s Day.
The kid-attractor factor: Big-name stars, plus the kids who appear as their children.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Never give up on family, learn to share, express yourself, always have hope.
Violence: A karaoke-induced tumble off a porch results in a broken leg, but that’s about it.
Language: Several instances of strong language, including the f-word.
Sexuality: There’s a lesbian couple who has to come out to one partner’s parents (they also drive a realistic “womb” float for the parade), a few mentions of a “sexy mom,” but that’s about it.
Drugs: Some wine sipping.
Parents advisory: If not for the swearing, this film would basically be OK for kids of all ages, but it’s aimed at a more mature audience.
