College Notes

The following Central Oregon students have been named to the winter 2016 dean’s list at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande: Daniel Blood, Austin Boswell, Callan Brick, Amy Freeman, Haley Rygg and Krystal Schadwald, of Bend; Darcy Gerhart, of Crescent; Tonna Curtis and Jennifer Witmeyer, of Prineville; and Cypres Piercey, Troy Purcell, Mikayla Mormance and Cooper Shaw, of Redmond.

The following Central Oregon students have been named to the fall 2015 dean’s list at Pacific University in Forest Grove: Geneva Diepenheim, Cassidy Finley, Evan Hagan, Justin Hurworth, Kelsey Powers, Garrett Price and Dannie Wright, of Bend; Emily Woodworth, of Sisters; and Delaney Morse, of Redmond.

The following students, from Bend, recently graduated from Pacific University in Forest Grove: Eric Krinsky earned a master’s degree in physician assistant studies; Justin Larson, Oziel Orea-Garcia and Kali Scott earned bachelor’s degrees in dental hygiene; Ryan O’Clair earned a doctoral degree in audiology; David Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and Mitchell Wettig earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.

Katherine Gillem, of Prineville, recently graduated from Pacific University in Forest Grove. She received a master’s degree in teaching.

Hayley Palmer, of Sisters, recently graduated from Pacific University in Forest Grove. She received a bachelor’s degree in studio art.

Briana Springer, of Redmond, recently graduated from Pacific University in Forest Grove. She received a bachelor’s degree in politics and government.

Youth Notes

Alice McKnight , a seventh-grader at REALMS, was awarded the Youth Citizenship Medal by the Daughters of the American Revolution Bend Chapter. Alice actively volunteers for the Family Kitchen and the Deschutes Land Trust, and is developing a project to assist homeless dog owners. The award recognizes her honor, service and leadership.

Cascade Middle School has been recognized as a Mix It Up Model School by the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Teaching Tolerance program. The recognition honors schools that encourage and maintain respect and inclusion throughout their school’s campus.

Teen Feats

Naval Sea Cadet Levi Follett , a sophomore at Mountain View High School, was awarded the Youth Citizenship Medal by the Daughters of the American Revolution Bend Chapter. Levi is a member of the Naval JROTC and the John Spence Division Naval Sea Cadets. He has also volunteered with Wreaths Across America, the Deschutes County Fair and Veterans of Foreign Wars. The award recognizes Levi’s service, courage and patriotism.

Carson Dedmon , a junior at Ridgeview High School, has been awarded the April 2016 Fortissimo Award by the Cascade School of Music. Carson is a student of Aaron Rohrbacher, and the son of Jalin Brown, of Redmond. He received the award for his skill and commitment to playing the clarinet.

Summit High School newspaper, The Pinnacle, was awarded first place in Best of Show at the National Journalism Education Convention in Los Angeles for the second year in a row. Additionally, Summit high school students Allison Apple, Emma Brandt, Nathan Lovejoy, Callista West and Grace Boyle received individual awards at the convention for design, photography and news and sports writing.
