Evelyn Beatrice Carlson Sather was born in Cass Lake, Minnesota, on May 6, 1916, to Swedish-American parents, Albin and Clara (Peterson) Carlson. She died in Bend, Oregon, September 14, 2015, at age 99.
In 1938, she joined her husband, Norman C. Sather, in Bend, where she lived until her passing.
Educated at Bemidji State Teachers College and Western Oregon College, she first taught in a one- room schoolhouse in northern Minnesota and later in Bend elementary schools.
As a decades-long member of First Lutheran Church, she was active in womens groups, taught Sunday School, directed the annual childrens Christmas programs, and hosted many Bible study groups.
Evelyn loved crossword puzzles, reading, jokes and parties. She welcomed her many friends who often dropped in for morning coffee.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Schmidt (Dennis), Mary Beth Hunnicutt (John), and Carla Jo Sallinger (Charles); and by eight grandchildren, Juliet Schmidt Dixon (Michael), Andrew Schmidt (Trudy), Rachel Schmidt Hettinger (Raymond), Sarah Schmidt Brenkus (Raymond), Lynn Hunnicutt (Jason Ramay), David Hunnicutt (Stephanie), Curt Sallinger, and Craig Sallinger (Anna McLaughlin); 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Gage.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, and by two infant children, Susan and Arne.
You are invited to a memorial celebration of Evelyns life on Saturday, September 19, at 3:00 p.m. at Grace First Lutheran Church.
