The Deschutes River Montessori School, which has been held in Director Elaine May’s southwest Bend home for two years, will move to a location in Bend’s Old Mill District.

Renovation of the school’s new space, above the J. Jill store on Southwest Powerhouse Drive, should begin within the next few days, in time for a July 1 opening, May said.

May said her family’s house has become “maxed out,” and the school is moving to allow for future growth, including the introduction of higher grades.

Depending on growth at the school, May said she could hire up to five additional staffers later this year.
