It seems every year the Christmas music starts playing a little earlier — bringing with it complaints about Christmas music being played too early.
If you’re one of the complainers who’d rather not deck the halls until after Thanksgiving (or even later, you Scrooges), stop reading now.
If you just can’t get enough holiday cheer, Jim Brickman has some good news for you. The pianist, known for such romantic ballads as “Valentine,” “The Gift” and “Simple Things,” will bring his Christmas show back on the road this year. Although the tour doesn’t officially start until after Thanksgiving, he’s kicking off festivities early with a warm-up date at the Tower Theatre tonight.
Brickman should be in a celebratory mood: He’s set to drop a new collection of holiday favorites, “Comfort & Joy: The Sweet Sounds of Christmas,” which follows last year’s “On a Winter’s Night: The Songs and Spirit of Christmas,” which in turn followed 2013’s “The Magic of Christmas.” Actually, it’s perhaps more surprising when Brickman doesn’t release a Christmas album in any given year.
The pianist is also marking 20 years in the adult contemporary pop business, and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Since 2005, the pianist has released at least two albums per year, and this year’s no exception. His “Pure Romance” and “Pure Piano” albums continued his “Pure” series of solo piano recordings, with the former focusing on popular love songs from Sting to Bob Dylan and the latter on reimagined Brickman favorites.
Jim Brickman; 7:30 p.m. today; $28, $38, $53; Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St., Bend; www.towertheatre.org or 541-317-0700. —Brian McElhiney
