Deaths of note from around the world:

Francis Sejersted, 79: History professor who became chairman of the Nobel Peace Committee that hands out the coveted award in Copenhagen, Denmark. Died Tuesday at home after a long illness.

Cynthia Macdonald, 87: Poet whose idiosyncratic blend of humor and the grotesque made her a distinctive voice on the U.S. poetry scene. Died Aug. 3 in a nursing home in Logan, Utah, of heart failure.

Charlie Coffey, 81: He brought a potent passing attack to Virginia Tech during three seasons as the Hokies’ head coach in the early 1970s. Died Monday at home in Shelbyville, Tennessee, after a long battle with cancer.
